Nissan does it's part to try to reduce this number by voluntarily iniating recalls on 2009 Nissan maxima products. If a safety defect is discovered, Nissan must notify NHTSA, as well as vehicle or equipment owners, dealers, and distributors. Nissan is required to remedy the problem (Nissan recall) at no charge to the Nissan owner.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 26398 Year: 2009 Make: Nissan Model: Maxima Manufactured from: 2009-03-02 to: 2009-08-03 Recall Date: 2009-09-16 Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 ALTIMA AND MAXIMA PASSENGER CARS. THE UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATORS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT INSULATOR TO CRACK. IF THE STRUT INSULATOR IS CRACKED, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT ROD TO COME OUT OF ITS MOUNTING POSITION, WHICH COULD AFFECT VEHICLE STABILITY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE FRONT STRUT INSULATORS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2009.
